A youthful, healthy and radiant skin depicts that you follow a healthy lifestyle and are extremely conscious about your skincare routine and overall looks. There are numerous things that can affect your skin and so you need a fool-proof and effective personalized skincare routine to maintain your skin’s natural glow. Since, every human is unique; the skin concerns also differ from person to person. Therefore, you need to consider several factors before developing a personalized skincare regime.

You Skin Care Journey Begins with Your Skin Type

The most crucial factor that determines your skincare routine is the type of skin you have. By identifying your skin type, you can easily decide on what steps to be followed and which products to be used that offer maximum benefit to your skin. Skin type can be categorized into three major categories.

  • Dry/Sensitive Skin

If you have dry/sensitive skin, you feel tightness throughout the day, and you may even notice visible flakes. Genetics and environmental factors like hormonal changes, diet, lifestyle and climate are few important causes of dry skin. Some of the features of dry skin are:

  • It is very reactive to new skincare products.
  • It is usually sensitive, uncomfortable and tight.
  • It has fine pores and have a tendency to develop wrinkles.
  • It may become irritated due to shaving.
  • Oily Skin/Acne Prone

Oily skin and acne prone skin have congested and clogged pores. Oily skin has natural moisture in it but the problem occurs when excess sebum builds up on your skin. Features of oily/acne prone skin include:

  • It feels greasy and has visible, large pores.
  • It has breakouts and develops blackheads easily.
  • It appears shiny, in areas like forehead and nose.
  • Combination/Normal Skin

If you have normal/combination skin, you can have dryness on your cheeks, whereas your T-zone appear oily most of the time. Features of normal/combination skin are as follows:

  • This skin type does not cause major problems, and can become dry or oily occasionally.
  • It is not prone to breakouts.
  • Shaving irritations may occur at times.

Daily Skincare Routine For Each Skin Type

  • Cleanse

Dry /Sensitive Skin: Personalized skincare routine for dry skin must include a foaming cleanser or moisturizing gel to wash your face. Avoid using ordinary soaps as they tighten your skin further and cause excessive dryness.

Oily/Acne-Prone Skin: For this type of skin, use a mild clay cleanser to wash your face. Avoid using harsh soaps as they may result in excess oil production.

Combination/Normal Skin: Use mild foaming cleanser or gel to clean your face if you have combination skin so that it not only removes dirt but also maintain balance of your skin.

  • Treat

Including an effective toner in your personalized skincare regime helps to remove any makeup residue. Thereafter, give your skin an extra glow with additional treatments. For instance:

Dry/Sensitive Skin: Use a hydrating essence or serum to quench your skin and give a boost of moisture.

Oily/Acne-Prone Skin: Use facial masks that give your skin a soothing effect while controlling excess sebum production. Aloe vera, lemon, charcoal, honey, green tea and oats are a few natural ingredients that can be applied in combination on oily skin.

Normal/Combination Skin: You can use face masks that have yogurt, avocado, vitamin E, honey, almonds and so on. All these are ingredients that make your skin radiant and youthful.

  • Moisturize

Dry/Sensitive Skin: Applying a super-hydrating moisturizer makes your dry skin smooth and shiny.

Oily/Acne-Prone Skin: Use oil-free moisturizer for oily skin.

Normal/Combination Skin: Include a general moisturizer in your personalized skincare products for normal skin. If you have oily skin in some areas and dryness in others, try using a hydrating moisturizer to combat dryness and an oil-free moisturizer for oily patches.
