Who will replace John terry ?

September 25, 2012 Comments Off

As we all know that last night John Terry retired from international football after enjoying 78 national caps .It was an illustrious 9 year career  and he certainly was the back bone of England’s  defense  but now he is gone  and the  question is who will replace him?

The England coach Roy Hodgson  was and is a long term admirer of John Terry ,he even selected him for the Euro 2012 despite of his racial abuse case and always considered him the back bone  of England’s defense  .Roy Hodgson believes that John Terry is not replaceable  and its a big loss.

However the replacement is must and there are few contenders .First obviously is Rio Ferdinand but Roy Hodgson is very reluctant is this case .After Ferdinand’s Euro snub ,Roy Hodgson  still has not communicated  Rio Ferdinand  who probably is his    close best option.

However  Hodgson snubbed Rio Ferdinand for the  Euro 2012 for  some “footballing reasons” but   in my opinion Hodgson needs his experience after the departure of John Terry .

The second option is Phil Jagielka but his performances against Montenegro and Ukrine were questionable .

Third and fourth choices are   Phil Jones and Chris Smalling but they both are injured and still are too young   for this vast post  because this rank requires a lot experience and   patience.

Fifth and sixth are  Garry Cahill  and Joleon Lescott  .As we all know the unpredictability of Lescott  but  Garry Cahill is a good choice .He is an intelligent defender and has some defending sense.Although he is still learning a lot but currently he is working with John Terry at Chelsea and his crucial performances in crucial matches makes him a strong contender .
