Arsene Wenger has revealed all the troubles he is facing in trying to make a new signing this January.
The Arsenal manager is being linked with a number of players including Napoli’s key striker Edinson Cavani.
Though Wenger really wants to strengthen his squad, he also faces a lot of troubles while doing it.
“We can spend money if it is for a player we think gives us a plus,” he said.
“We can strengthen everywhere. You can come out of any game and think, ‘We gave some cheap goals away against Manchester City’. At the moment it is more important that the team remains focused. If we find something, we will do it.
“Listen, [with regards to] Cavani; Napoli are playing for the title and the Champions League in Italy. What is Napoli’s interest in selling Cavani? None, unless you say, ‘OK, we will pay twice the price of what the player is worth’.
“On top of that, all the players who can strengthen us are cup-tied in the Champions League.”
The North Londers’ boss is ready to pay an extra amount of money instead of not qualifying further into the Champions League.
“Even if you buy somebody, you have no guarantee that you will be in the top four,” he said. “We want to be in the top four of course. That’s the priority.”
Arsenal will next face Bayern Munich the round of 16.
