Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes are now all recovered to join their squad as they face Newcastle United. The trio missed the trip to Romania because they were not fit.

Sir Alex had also revealed after the match against CFR Cluj that Jonny Evans was now okay after being substituted.

“It was just a dead leg he picked up last Saturday against Tottenham,” he said. “I took him off towards the end [of the Cluj game].”

Chris Smalling has also returned to light training though he will not be in the squad against Newcastle. Ashley Young will also be fit for United’s next home game.

Smalling had picked up a broken metatarsal which had ruled him out for ten weeks. It started off with a small groin injury but this led him to being operated.

“Smalling has started training on the football side,” Sir Alex revealed. “That helps us, particularly as we have a problem at centre-back.

“Ashley will start training while the internationals are on, particularly during the second week. He could, at a stretch, be back for the Stoke game [on Saturday 20 October].”

With these injury problems being solved, United might have a good season this year as compared to the last one.

However, Nemanja Vidic is still sidelined and might not be returning soon.
