When football awards are announced, they are followed up by very interesting remarks from players who suggest which player should win and who should not. Besides that, the nominees come out and praise the other nominees while heart-in-heart, they hope that they would win.
After UEFA announced 32 candidates who could win the UEFA award, things remained quiet. However now, UEFA has released a list of three finalists which are: Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta.
Cristiano Ronaldo is a Portuguese player who plays for the Spanish club Real Madrid. He has been nominated previously (2010/2011). Ronaldo scored 46 goals last season in Madrid’ victorious La Liga campaign. He was also semi-finalist in Euro2012 with Portugal. However, Ronaldo failed to impress a lot of people in the Euro 2012 and so his chances might decrease.
Another nominee is Lionel Messi who requires no introduction. The Argentine midfielder-cum-attacker has won the first edition of the award regardless of the fact that he is not a European. Messi has a lot of awards to his credit but his team, FC Barcelona failed to win the La Liga title this season which might lead Messi to lose points.
Last but definitely not the least is Andres Iniesta. Iniesta is a Spanish national and he had put forward an impressive performance during the Euro 2012. He became the Player of the Tournament. However he might also suffer from the fact that Barcelona lost the title.
The winner will be announced on August 30th, in Monaco. The voting will be done through an online electronic voting system and will be live.
