Tom Cleverley impressive against Moldova

Remember it was  Cleverley who earned  England an early penalty which  set them on their way to a demolishing start of  world cup qualifying campaign. With only three minutes gone, he drifted into space on the edge of the Moldovan penalty area and forced England’s penalty with a shot that cannoned into the arm of Simion Bulgaru.Cleverley is tipped by many to feature against Ukraine on Tuesday night, and should the Manchester United man have another fine display against the Eastern Europeans belief in the youngster will be bolstered further.

It was Cleverley  who pulled the Moldavian defense  all over the place which forced Roy Hodgson to admire him by saying  that

“The Olympics were important for Tom and they were important for me because that’s sort of where I discovered him.”

“I knew him when he was on loan at Watford and I’d seen him play a few games as a substitute for Manchester United, but don’t forget that he got injured very early last season.”

“So I suppose the Olympics were really the first opportunity for me to run the rule over him.”

“And it was good I could do that because it meant that when I was selecting my squad for the start of the World Cup campaign, I knew he was one of the names I wanted to add to my list.”

“I think it would be wrong to label what type of player he is as he can do a number of jobs. For me, Tom is an attacking midfield player in the same way as Fabregas and I liked the fact that he took more responsibility for getting closer to Defoe.”

“By doing that he allowed Gerrard and Lampard to get on the ball in deeper positions where they are so comfortable.”
