The Persie – Cabaye ‘elbow’ incident

Robin van Persie was cleared of any charges as he had apparently elbowed Yohan Cabaye during the clash between Newcastle United and Manchester United this week. If Persie would have been charged, he would have missed the next three matches against Stoke and Chelsea in the BPL and Chelsea in the Capital One Cup.

In the 84th minute of the match, Robin van Persie was seen running by Cabaye and it seemed that the the Dutchman’s elbow had hit his face. Howard Web had not seen the incident occurring and when he later reviewed it, he said he would not have sent him off because of this incident.

Alan Pardew has asked for investigation on the matter.

“He has looked at Yohan and he has elbowed him and I think that perhaps needs to be looked at, if I am honest,” Pardew said.

“There’s a bit of history from last year and I don’t know if Robin has been caught up in that, but that was just a little bit unsavoury. I actually thought Yohan wouldn’t have gone down if he hadn’t done something. I didn’t see it myself, but I have obviously seen it on the replay and it looks like he has looked at him and put his elbow there.”

The history he talks about it that Persie was blamed to have exchanged some harsh words with Tom Krul and they were separated after the match ended.

However, the FA has decided to not take any actions against Persie.

Persie has backed the FA for this decision. Van Persie told voetbal.nl: “And I agree with the union.”

Persie also added that he has settled at Manchester United and is enjoying his time here.

“It’s fun and it’s going well,” added van Persie. “It is a great challenge.

“I will have to change a bit, but that happens in life often enough.”

There a a great number of chances of Persie becoming one of the top goal scorers this season.
