Arsenal’s defense partnership with Koscielny and Mertasacker has been unarguably the best in the Premier League. The pair has developed an excellent understanding among them and are always available to cover for each other’s mistake. Something which Gunners lacked in the recent years.
With Vermaelen not being a part of Wenger’s starting 11 recently and apparently seeking a move outside Emirates Arsenal have decided to cash on a new centre back to integrate depth in the squad.
The agent of Cheikhou Kouyate has revealed he is in talks with Arsenal and claims the club are ‘very interested’ in signing the Anderlecht defender.
Kouyate is a name many of you may know already as he’s been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent transfer windows. In fact, a move was meant to have been agreed in the summer but it fell through at the last minute due to work permit issues.
The 24-year-old has since been granted a Belgian passport meaning he’s free to move to any European club and it appears we’ve now renewed our interest in the centre-back.
The players agent, Saffet Balkan talked to the Mirror and he was quoted saying, “We are discussing with the representatives of Arsenal and Liverpool, in particular the first are very interested in him. I also had contact with Manchester City and Southampton, so he’s very likely to arrive in the Premier League shortly.”
