Sir Alex Ferguson understands that despite United’s excellent win record at White Hart Lane, the fixture will be a tough one on Sunday.spurs_2355195b

Sir Alex has appreciated Andre Villas-Boas’ efforts at Tottenham and he believes that AVB was under much pressure at Chelsea which got him sacked. However, his form at Spurs has been much better, leading Spurs to their first ever win at Old Trafford in the Premier League era. United lost 3-2 to Arsenal at home.

“I think Spurs have done well this season,” said Sir Alex at Friday’s pre-match press conference. “I’ve watched quite a few of their games and their form has been consistent. They’re in good form and I think they’ll challenge for the top four.

“Villas-Boas has Spurs in the way he wants them and I think there are signs they’re playing how he wants them to play. That’s what a coach wants to do – get his philosophy across. I think they’ll challenge for the top four.”

United have remained unbeaten at White Hart Lane in their last 11 league visits, last losing in May 2001.

“We have a fantastic record there,” he acknowledged. “It’s a stadium that’s old-fashioned, football-wise, like Aston Villa and Everton. There’s always a good atmosphere and we enjoy playing there. But we can’t take anything for granted. We have a hard game on Sunday. We have to perform.”

Manchester United would be looking to take revenge of their home defeat.
