Former Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann has claimed that though Ozil is a dream signing for Arsenal, it does not guarantee them any silverware and the trophy drought will have to continue.
Ozil joined Arsenal for a club record of £42.5million from Real Madrid during the dying hours of the transfer deadline day. The club’s previous transfer record was the signing of Andrey Arshavin who joined Arsenal in 2009 from Zenit St Petersburg in 2009.
The former Liverpool star agrees that Ozil is a great player and he will definitely add quality to the Arsenal squad, but he argues that it is too early to consider them as title contenders.
Jose Mourinho, the manager of their rival team Chelsea, had claimed that Arsenal were now title contenders.
“With the pace of [Theo] Walcott, the trickery of [Santi] Cazorla, the physicality of [Olivier] Giroud, [Ozil] will create a lot of chances for Arsenal and I think he’s a top, top signing,” he told Goal.
“Whether it’s enough for them to challenge for the title, I’m not too sure, but it certainly is a step in the right direction.”
“I think he is a fantastic player, I think he’s a fantastic signing for Arsenal – I think he’ll improve the team no end,” he added.
“He has more assists over the last four or five years than any other player in Europe and he can create and score a goal out of nothing – and I don’t think there are too many players of that calibre.
“David Silva played a similar role at Manchester City when they won the league and I think he’s a similar type of player who’s always available, rarely gives the ball away, and you know, once he’s got the ball, that something’s going to happen.”
You cannot really say if this man here is right or not, because Ozil might not be a guarantee for titles. But he will be a pleasant sight to watch during games and Arsenal will definitely be boosted by his transfer.
