According to Telegraph, Arsenal’s misery at losing 5-1 to Liverpool is compounded as it emerges that defender Per Mertesacker sustained a black eye in a dispute with team-mate Yaya Sanogo.
The pair clashed during a training session at The Gunners’ London Colney complex before the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.
The club played down the clash, telling the Daily Telegraph it was the kind of incident that happens throughout the course of a season.
Mirror Sport understands there was a row but that contrary to reports, Sanogo, 21, did NOT head-butt the Germany defender.
Arsenal also said that the clash with Sanogo had taken place some time ago with Mertesacker having stated in an interview yesterday that he sustained the black eye he sported during the game after being elbowed accidentally by Wojciech Szczesny in training.
Afterwards Wenger said of the humiliating defeat: “We always looked vulnerable defensively. What is important is that we respond to that result and especially that the response is a different performance because our performance was poor.”
