Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has expressed his comments on Arsene Wenger’s current status. He believes that Wenger should stay and ‘clean up his mess’.
The Frenchman has been under formidable pressure as the Gunners have lost their FA Cup tie against Blackburn and have also lost to Bayern Munich at the Emirates during the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.
The club, under Wenger, is in its worst form ever and most of the fans on social networking sites are urging the club to get rid of the boss.
“He’s got them into this mess – he needs to get them out of it. The players are all his, the decisions are all his, the mistakes are all his,” wrote Merson in the Daily Star. Merson played for a very short while under Wenger.
“He doesn’t have a chairman or an owner lumbering him with players. He’s buying them himself. That’s why it has to be Arsene Wenger who turns it around.
“I know Arsene. I played for him. He will be hurt by what’s happening at his club – and I’m sure it’s crossed his mind to walk.
“He must take responsibility and turn it round, but that means admitting his mistakes and learning from them – and I’m not sure he is very good at that.
“Arsene, you’ve been wrong too often lately. Mostly, you are wrong for trying to do too much. It’s time to let others take on some responsibility.”
