Wayne Rooney has suffered a deep cut on his right thigh during Manchester United’s 3-2 win against Fulham on Saturday.
Fulham were struggling for an equalizer at the end of the game when Rooney bravely came in the way of Hugo Rodallega whose shot was blocked. However his boots came down on Rooney’s right thigh and that inflicted a nasty gash.
Rooney got onto his feet but was soon holding his leg near the knee pointing towards the cut. Referee Kevin Friend stopped the game immediately and Rooney was given lengthy treatment on the pitch. Following that, Rooney left on a stretcher.
Sir Alex Ferguson told MUTV that Rooney went straight to the hospital and he will be out for a month.
“It’s a very bad one,” he told MUTV. “He’s gone to hospital. Obviously it looks as he’ll be out for maybe four weeks.
“I don’t know what happened. I think the player must have followed through after he shot. He’s got a bad one.”
