Eric Cantona – A man who is deeply respected and adored by every Manchester United fan all over the world. He is a symbol of great respect for them and they are deeply inspired from him. This includes all the youngsters at United who wish to play and become like him.

Wayne Rooney, who is now the key playmaker at United aims to be like Cantona so he could be an inspiration for the youngsters in the England squad.

Rooney believes that his international career is not as successful as it should be. His Euro 2012 performance was absolutely insignificant. However, now England does not have John Terry who was a senior player’ Rio Ferdinand has been ignored by Roy Hodgson and Gerrard and Lampard are in the ending stages of their careers. Rooney thinks now is his time.

Rooney said: “I hope it is time for me to show I am a senior player and that I can lead the team. I understand the scrutiny I’m under and I have no problems with that.”

“Hopefully in the near future we will be coming out of a tournament and you will all be praising me because we have won a trophy. That would be great for everyone.

“It’s especially important now, when we have a lot of young players in the squad. I always try to speak to them and offer advice.

“I always remember what Sir Alex Ferguson says about how Eric Cantona was such a big help to the younger players at United.”

If Rooney ever gains that position which was enjoyed by Cantona, he would become one of the greatest legends ever.
