Olivier Giroud confirms the arrival of a new striker at Arsenal

It was summer 2012 when the heartbreak was Arsenal fans occurred – Robin van Persie announced that he would leave the North Londoners. To make things worse, he joined Manchester United and since then, Arsenal have been linked to every striker you can name. Wenger signed Olivier Giroud and Arsenal fans were confident of him and claimed that they did not need Persie with Giroud leading the team upfront. However, Giroud could not really live up to that claim.

Arsene Wenger stayed active on the striker front and bought Yaya Sanogo last summer but the youngster gives an impression that he is still soft at the edges to play in the Premier League. Lukas Podolski, on the other hand, has seldom played in that position because it seems like Wenger does not trust him in that position.

However, the newspapers today claim that Olivier Giroud has confirmed that Arsenal will be landing a new striker this summer and he is excited to compete with someone for the starting-eleven position.

Arsenal started off the season on a high note with their fans confident of the title victory in September (?!) but that soon went into the drain since Liverpool and Manchester City battled for the title with goal-scorers like Luis Suarez (31 goals), Daniel Sturridge (21 goals) and Yaya Toure (20 goals).

“I can tell you Arsenal will add a striker to the team,” Giroud told the French Website InfoSport+ (translated by ESPN).
“We need another striker. Great clubs have several good strikers, who compete with each other.”

Despite that, Arsenal still managed to end their trophy drought by winning the FA Cup – special thanks To Aaron Ramsey for his late winner – and the club does have the potential to manage and challenge the big guns if they sign a striker who is aggressive (in terms of gameplay, of course) upfront.
