Lionel Messi, who scored 73 goals and made 29 assists from 60 appearances last season, aims to get even better this year. He said “Every new season I try to get better. Not in the number of goals, but as a player. I hope there’s still room for improvement.”
Speaking on Wednesday at Ciutat Esportiva, he said “There are several months to go before the Ballon d’Or presentation. What I do hope is that it stays in the Barça squad.” The Argentine star has been nominated for the biggest award in football world along with Cristiano Ronaldo, Iker Casillas, Xavi and Andres Iniesta.
FC Barcelona lost the La Liga title to Real Madrid last season and this year, they shall face the challenge of winning it back. “The main objective is titles. It gets harder every year. We said that at the start of last season, and it’s the same this time. We have to fight for every title until the end, just like we did last year,” Messi added.
FC Barcelona also lost the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League to Chelsea. Messi said, “We have a thorn in our sides after losing the Champions League semi final to Chelsea and being beaten by Real Madrid at the Camp Nou. But last season is now history. It’s a fresh start for us all. We have to prepare ourselves as best we can for what’ll be a tough season”.
The three times in a row Ballon d’Or winner hopes to play his role in helping Barcelona do even better this season. FC Barcelona will play against Hamburg SV on 24th July as a part of their pre-season tour.
