Brian Mcdermott, the Reading manager has seen his side getting promoted to the premier league and found the harsh realities of the top league hit his side hard. 9 point from 13 games is not very good if you are looking not to drop down a league immediately after getting promoted. They have been unlucky sometimes but in general their play is still Championship level and until they get accustomed to the pace of the premier league it is going to be difficult for them. Players like Sean Morrison and Le Fondre have been good but the rest of the team has been pretty average. They face league leaders Manchester United who despite getting an early lead against West Ham on Wednesday failed to score a second goal and eventually won 1-0. With the early lead and the likes of Rooney, Persie and Hernandez on the pitch, everybody expected United to romp away with the game but that never happened. In the end it was an anxious end to the game with the visitors threatening to equalize. On paper this looks to be David v Goliath but if Reading are to survive in the Premier League, a good performance here will go a long way in achieving that goal. Manchester United on the other hand will look to maintain the slender 1 point gap above neighbors Manchester City. The last time United were at Madjeski Stadium was in 2008 when Ronaldo was still a part of the club and scored to help United to a 2-0 victory.
Reading enjoyed a brilliant season in the Championship when they won the league and gained promotion to the top league after a gap of 4 years. Brian Mcdermott, since joining the club in 2009 has enjoyed considerable success with the club. This season though has been a completely different story. Reading has found the premier league a bit too hot to handle thus far. A paltry 9 points from 13 games is not going to be good enough for them to stay in the league. There have been some good things about them this too. Players like Sean Morrison and Le Fondre who have risen up to the task and have performed brilliantly. If the whole team does not reach the same level, Reading will have to prepare for life in the Championship once again. Brian Mcdermott who told journalists how he asked for advice from Sir Alex Ferguson last season and the United duly obliged. He will need all that advice for this match and the rest of the season to save his team from relegation which at the present moment is a real possibility. Reading has beaten the likes of Everton albeit they are inconsistent and that is something they will have improve on.
Sir Alex Ferguson saw his men scramble to the finish line against West Ham United. Robin van Persie scored with a fortuitous deflection on 33 seconds and from there on in the fans wished for the traditional Hammers hammering which never came. The diamond formation which deprives United of any sort of width was the undoing. Injuries to Valencia and Nani, leaves the manager very little option but without Kagawa, the diamond looks a lot less sparkly. The partnership of Anderson and Cleverly was one of the bright things in midweek with the young duo starting a game after a long time. The incisive passing and the quick interchange was good to watch but United just couldn’t find the killer pass. Defensively the club is in a much better position than a month ago with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling both back in action. They have provided good cover for Evans and Ferdinand whilst also being an option on the right wing back position. Buttner has performed well when called upon in place of Evra and might get a game against Reading. Manchester United will be looking for goals galore on the night with an eye on improving goal difference. Rooney is short of goals this season while Persie and Hernandez have been scoring for fun.

Reading – The Reading manager has kept up his 4-4-2 formation from the Championship last season with Roberts and Le Fondre leading the line. Even though this worked so well for them last season but this is a new level altogether. For one thing Mcdermott still hasn’t found the right partner for Morrison in the centre of defense. Morrison has been nothing short of brilliant this season and if he does not get support from his partner it will be only devalue his performances. Shorey, on his return to the top flight has been poor on the left flank and needs to improve. The midfield four is a constant thing for the Reading side. Leightwood and Tabb start in the middle of the park with Kanu and McAnuff on the wings. They will need to tighten up the midfield if they are to get anything out of this game as United have a world class attack which is capable of ripping the Reading defense to shreds.
Manchester United – Alex Ferguson’s men lacked width in their side with the diamond –cum- 4-3-3 formation against West Ham United. The absence of Valencia and Nani plus the poor form of Ashley Young means United will have to deal with a lack of width in the game. The diamond formation worked well with Kagawa on top if it but him injured it is a bit stale. Defensively United are well covered with Jones and Smalling returning after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The Serbian Vidic is still out while Ferdinand was rested in midweek. Rafael has played an awful lot this season and might be given a rest with Smalling deputizing. Scholes was on the bench against the Hammers and might be back in the starting eleven on Saturday along side Fletcher/Carrick. Rooney and Persie may start the game with Hernandez and Welbeck on the bench.

Reading – Sean Morrison – The English central defender has been one of the rare shining lights of a rather disappointing season thus far for the club. He will have to be on the top of his game if Reading is to hold out the might Manchester United. Rooney, Persie, Hernandez and others will be gunning for goals and if Morrison and company are not careful , this might turn into an long 90 minutes for the side.
Manchester United – Robin van Persie– The Dutch striker recently got a stamp of approval from compatriot and former United maestro Ruud van Nistelrooy. He scored the fastest goal of the season against West Ham on 33 second and was a constant threat against the Hammers. The former Arsenal man has been a great addition to an already talented strike force and has probably enhanced it.
