Marseille playmaker Mathieu Valbuena has told the official Marseille website that his team were the better side and they did not deserve to lose the match.
The Gunners sealed their first group stage match with the help of goals from Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey. However, Marseille won a penalty in the injury time, which seemed a little harsh.
Valbeuna said, as quoted by Lady Arse Gossip: “At halftime, we said that if we could not win this game you should not lose it. It’s a shame because our performance was good overall.
“We had many more opportunities than them. This is the highest level. This is not always the best team wins. It is played on details. We have already experienced this in previous seasons in the Champions League. We felt we could win, but in the end it’s Arsenal wins.
“We did everything to win. It was good sequences. It has the speed and mobility. We showed good things tonight. It’s a shame not to have been awarded. The purpose of Walcott has hurt us and then we left them more space.
“For one hour we were solid. We conceded few opportunities. The first game is often capital. We’ll see. In Dortmund, we have a big game. We hope to do the same performance as the last time “
Arsenal will next play Napoli at the Emirates, and Wenger is confident that 10 points will be sufficient for his side to qualify for the further stages of this competition.
