One of the main reasons for the consistent success from Manchester United in the league is to have strong depth in the squad and they have always had that under Sir Alex Ferguson. They say in football “attack wins you games defense wins you titles”. The current crop of defense in Manchetser United is pretty strong with Nemanja Vidic, Johnny Evans, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Rio Ferdinand all quality centre backs.
But if you consider that Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand have not much time left, United would need a replacement to maintain the same depth they’ve had over the years.
Kurt Zouma is a centre back who is on the radar of many big clubs. Barcelona were tracking him so were Arsenal. The big money spenders Manchester City were also after him but somehow the deal didn’t work out. In the last two years of Sir Alex, United were pretty active in the speculation regarding the move of Zouma to Old Trafford and sources report that the rumor has reignited.
The problem for Saint-Etienne, Zouma’s current club is, that they own one of the most promising centre-backs in Europe, if not in the entire world. Promising youngsters attract attention, and that’s exactly what is happening.
Le10 sport believe that, according to various sources, both Manchester clubs are prepared to offer €10m for the player, an offer that, albeit good, wouldn’t be quite enough to convince Saint-Etienne. However, they will have to compete with mega-bucks Monaco who, after realizing that Eliaquim Mangala might be out of their reach, seem to have made Kurt Zouma their priority in a bid to rejuvenate their ageing defensive core.
