Manchester City vs. Arsenal – Match Preview

September 22, 2012 Comments Off

If someone around you has referred to this Sunday as Super Sunday, he was absolutely right as this truly is just that super! After the derby between Manchester United and Liverpool will end, another big match will begin. With both teams in form, what could possibly happen?

Venue and Timings

The match will kick-off at Etihad Stadium on 23rd September 2012 at 15.00 BST (20.00 PST and 20.30 IST).

Team Form

Manchester City

The Premier League champions have been suffering  bit lately as they drew their last Premier League match against Stoke followed by a Champions League defeat at the Bernabeu Stadium from Real Madrid.

To add to their worries, Samir Nasri limped off the pitch and he could possibly be ruled out for sometime due to hamstring strain.

Sergio Aguero came on as a substitute but as reports suggest, he is completely fit for this match. Ths possibly means that he will handle the attacking part.

If Aguero does not play, Tevez will play which means Yaya Toure could be summoned at the midfield.

Micah Richards is still out due to his injury.

Maicon and Clichy have been playing pretty well so they could retain their positions in the team.

Arsenal

Arsenal could be covering up what they have been missing since Van Persie left by winning their last two matches properly. They defeated Southampton 6 – 1 which clearly shows that Arsenal will be dangerous to City.

Wojciech Szczesny missed out Arsenal’s trip to Montpellier because of his injury and he would still remain ruled out. His position will be taken by Mannone who is doing well.

Gervinho could replace Giroud with Oxlade-Chamberlain supporting him.

Diaby will join Artreta in the back four.

Recent Meetings

Arsenal would definitely have to suffer from some pressure as they would be visiting Etihad. In the past, their trips have not always been pleasant.

Manchester City 2 – 0 Arsenal

Manchester City 0 – 1 Arsenal

Manchester City 1 – 0 Arsenal

Manchester City 1 – 0 Arsenal

Manchester City 0 – 0 Arsenal

What to expect?

The match will definitely be a little problem for Arsenal fans as their players have been leaving Arsenal to join Manchester City. The fans will be all geared up for hurling such chants against each other.

City rarely lose at home so Arsenal should not assure themselves of any victory and the should enter Etihad with full preparation.

This will end in City’s favour most probably. 2 – 1 for City.
