Manchester City have developed a habit of teasing targets which are either scouted by their rivals or have played for their rivals. For instance Jovetic was linked with Arsenal but City got their noses in front by offering more money.
Owen Hargreaves was a signing by The Blues which shocked many Manchester United fans. City signed Hargreaves just to get under the skin of Red Devils but that didn’t turn out how both the parties would have wanted to. And yes the unforgettable Carlos Tevez signing.
The news has been flying around that City have are now targeting another ex-Manchester United player. Gerrard Pique, who played for Manchester City’s arch-rivals Manchester United for four years, is yet to discuss a new contract with Barcelona – despite the fact his current deal ends next summer.
The 26-year-old Spain international has appeared 19 times for Barcelona so far this season and is seen as an important member of the Spanish side’s first-team squad. Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino is unlikely to want to see his star defender leave the Camp Nou, however he may decide to cash in on the former Manchester United defender next summer if his side cannot agree personal terms with Pique.
News also suggests that Manchester City will buy Pique to replace Vincent Kompany who has been linked to the moneybags AS Monaco. Manchester City were also linked with Paul Pogba and City were expected to trigger the buyout clause for the young prodigy who seems to be enjoying playing alongside the likes of Marchisio and Pirlo at Juventus.
