Jack Wilshere is to replace Thomas Vermaelen as the Arsenal captain, the Sunday People has revealed.
It is believed that since Vermaelen got hold of the captaincy, his performances have suffered. Vermaelen was handed over the captaincy following the departure of former captain Robin van Persie.
Current captain Thomas Vermaelen looks set to be stripped of his armband after a drop in his performances this term, the newspaper claims.
It has also been rumoured that FC Barcelona are interested in Vermaelen, and as Wenger has lost his previous captains like Van Persie and Fabregas, he wants to change roles.
Also with Wilshere becoming a better player in every game, he might attract interest as well. So it could be a preventive measure being taken by Arsene Wenger.
