Arsenal’s £42.4m signing, the former Real Madrid player with exceptional ability and probably the second best attacking midfielder in the world was humiliated by the French media yesterday after their paper; L’equipe termed Mesut Ozil as a rubbish signing. It is understood that Jean-Michael Rouet gave Arsenal’s stellar signing just 4/10 rating in the game against Marseille.
Now this is very immature from the French media as every player can have a bad game once in a while, even the likes of Messi and Iniesta are subject to a poor game once in a while.
Along with Jack Wilshere, Ozil was rated the worst Arsenal player on the pitch at the Stade Velodrome as Arsene Wenger’s men ran out 2-1 winners. According to the journalist, Ozil started the game brilliantly “good start with a nice pass for Walcott but a lack of power after that and pretty rubbish”
Gunners full-back Kieran Gibbs was by far Arsenal’s best player – with an important hand in both goals – and was duly rewarded with an eight out of 10. But Wilshere and Ozil shouldn’t pay too much attention to the player ratings – the French newspaper are famously scathing in their post-match critiques. Probably they are still pissed over the loss due to some wonderful performance by The Gunners.
