Football Pundit Paul Merson criticises Wayne Rooney, Eric Cantona and Manchester United fans in his latest rant against the club. The Sky pundit has laughed at United fans believing Rooney is not a world class player and nor was Eric Cantona.
Arsenal and Aston Villa star Paul Merson: “Don’t tell me he’s up with Bestie as one of the greats. I’m a big fan of Wayne, but he’s not in that class.It always makes me laugh that United fans voted Eric Cantona their greatest player recently. What did he ever do in the Champions League? It’s just silly.If Rooney is still around in four years’ time, and is still breaking records, they will probably all vote for him instead.”
Merson played for Arsenal was sold to relegated Middlesbrough in a £5 million deal – making him the most expensive player ever signed by a non-Premiership club. Whilst Arsene Wenger had offered a new two year contract, Middlesbrough offered double the salary available at Arsenal. Merson played 423 times for Arsenal and scored 99 goals in all competitions.
