Former Manchester United star Eric Cantona will take his place on Monte Carlo’s ‘Promenade of Legends’ tonight. His footprint will be added alongside George Best and Ryan Gigss’ footprint. Every year, a current player and a few legends are included in the list.
Cantona is currently in town answering questions from various journalists. This article contains all those which will interest Manchester United fans out there. He was asked how he remembers his time with Sir Alex and he said, “A great manager but also a great psychologist. Today he is 70 years old but speaks equally to Giggs and 18 year olds leaving the academy, making the most of everyone. A great character.”
Cantona was also questioned on the possibility of ever replacing Alex Ferguson as the manager of Manchester United. He believes that Fergie won’t be giving up any time soon. “If I could be in his place? No, I do not aspire to become a manager. And I see Ferguson training forever,” he told the journalists.
Cantona has led a life of freedom since he retired from football. He gave attention to beach football and acting so he is not ready for restrictions of any kind.
He added a special touch to the #7 shirt he wore at United. When he was questioned about what he thinks of those who have worn the jersey, he said, “I think Beckham was one of the best interpreters of the modern game and that he was a worthy heir of my shirt.”
However the best quote that came from him was when he was asked about getting a place on the Monte Carlo’s ‘Promenade of Legends’. He replied, with his typical Cantona smile, ”Become a legend? But I am already.”
