England’s oh sorry Team GB’s penalty curse

Penalty shoot out curse again hit  Stuart pierce’s  men as Great Britain lost to South Korea  on penalties 5-4.Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge missed the final  penalty which ended Great Britain’s hopes of  a medal .Great Britain  found some decent chances in the match but failed to convert them which dented them badly  .

 

Aron Ramsey was the main culprit.Great Britain  for the first time in the tournament found themselves behind after the strike  of    Sunderland’s Dongwon Ji  in the 29th minute  but soon four minutes after Great Britain equalized   when  Ryan Bertrand’s shoot hit the arm of Jaesuk Oh  and Referee pointed towards the spot.

 

Aron Ramsey stepped forward and took a worst penalty ,lucky  for him that the ball just creep under the goalkeeper for an Equalizer   .Great Britain again  found  a golden chance to take the lead when Daniel sturridge was brought down in the box  and was awarded a penalty .Aron Ramsey again took the penalty but this time keeper judged it and saved it.Tom Cleverley  also came close to a second goal but was denied by the keeper .

 

Game went to penalty shoot out where Daniel sturridge missed the all crucial fifth penalty and    Sungyueng Ki converted the Koreans’ next spot-kick  which knocked Stuart Pierce and his men out of the tournament  .On this whole situation Stuart pierce said

 

“Daniel got the winner three days ago that got us out of the group stage.”

 

“Tonight he missed the penalty but we are all in this together.”

 

“It’s been a fantastic experience. The important thing is the players have an experience that makes them better and stronger at the end.”

 

“He’ll be disappointed but it just makes you stronger , it made me stronger.”

 

“I am proud of the players they gave me everything. The only downside is I don’t have the opportunity to fight for a medal with these players.”
