Arsenal are in for a hunt after another German star, thanks to a move of record breaking deal for Mesut Ozil. Apparently Arsene Wenger has started pursuing German Internationals to add more chemistry between the players. Per Mertasacker, Gnabry, Mesut Ozil and Thomas Eisfield are all from Germany in the current squad.
Arsenal’s primary targets were a striker and a defensive midfielder but they lost out on Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Gustavo. Reports have been thrown around that Dortmund have demanded a price range of 30m for their star midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan.
But Arsenal will be told it will take at least £30m to praise the youngster away from Germany in January. Dortmund are determined to keep Gundogan until at least the end of next season but realise his long-term future lies away from the club with Europe’s elite queuing up to sign the youngster. The German club would have to consider an offer of £30m when the transfer window reopens.
Fully aware of the Gunners’ interest, Dortmund will keep the player on a tight leash when he arrives in London. Arsene Wenger has around 50m in this January to spend on players and a hefty amount of that sum will be spent on Gundogan.
