Newcastle FC might be losing their key striker this season as the transfer market opens in January. This is because Newcastle and Ba have not agreed on common grounds for a new contract.
In the five appearances that Ba has made for Newcastle United this season, he has scored three impressive goals. This has left Demba Ba pretty frustrated at the start of the season. Ba had helped Newcastle earn up a point at Goodison Park where they faced a rather strong Everton side.
It was assumed by the media that Ba’s contract expired on 31st July, 2012. However, Alan Pardew denied this and said it would expire at the end of the January transfer period.
“There is that clause in his contract and it makes us vulnerable,” he said. “It’s still open in the next window.”
Ba has also been excluded from the squad that has travelled with Newcastle to Portugal for their opening Europa League match against Maritimo. However, Pappis Demba Cisse has also been left out.
Pardew has also stated that he would try to talk to Ba once again before allowing him to leave.
“‘I have spoken to Demba [about his agent] and told him I was disappointed with some of the comments around him,” Pardew added.
“Sometimes it’s out of his control and out of my control. But we know each other well enough, and I’ve got no problems with him, because he is a team player who wants to do his best for the team.”
