Demba Ba has finally signed for Chelsea. Leaving the North East of England for London at a fee of around £7m. Nevertheless, Blues fans are concerned about the future of another player. A player who they have come to adore for his service and loyalty to the club. His name is Frank Lampard.
Frank Lampard has been part of the Chelsea set up for 12 years. The former West Ham trainee has won 3 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups, 2 League Cups, 2 Community Shields and 1 Champions League with the Blues. In the process, scoring 191 goals in 517 appearances for the club in all competitions.
In the context of football, he certainly exhibits the type of professionalism that every up and coming English footballer should manifest their game after. Lampard’s Chelsea career sparked to life under the guidance of Jose Mourinho. Frank Lampard was definitely one of the lynchpins who helped Chelsea to domestic glory along with John Terry and Didier Drogba.
There is certainly no doubt that he is blessed with tremendous talent. The 34-year-old still has a few more years left in him. His primary contribution to the team is sitting and controlling the tempo of the game from the middle of the park. In addition, is capable of stringing passes that are easy on the easy and destructive to other teams.
Frank Lampard is also Chelsea’s top scoring midfielder. He showed last Sunday against Everton how lethal he is in front of goal. First, pulling the blues level in the first half and putting them in the lead during the second half with a calmly finished header.
In all honesty, Chelsea had made the wrong decision of not extending Frank Lampard’s contract beyond this season. It’s a decision that soon will come to haunt them. He is an asset to the club. The vast experience he has had at the top level, could be tapped by younger players in the squad, the likes of Oscar and Josh McEachran should model their game after Lampard’s.
Rafa Benitez sacredly sticks by his rotation policy. At times, he gambles with this policy. Nevertheless, Lampard has a use here. It’s not necessary for him to start all the games in the season. His games should be picked based on his experience and fitness level much like Ryan Gggs and Paul Scholes of Manchester United. Oscar and Ramires could swap places with Frank from time to time.
The Chelsea legend has shown what the club means to him. According to fresh reports, he is willing to take a pay cut just to stay at the London Club. A wage cut of 65% taking his weekly wages to about £50k-per-week.
In today’s world of football, man-management plays an even greater persona. Chelsea FC continues to show the world how they honor professionals who have rendered themselves to their cause. No one is immune to the axe.
In the case of Frank Lampard, Chelsea will not find another servant of his stature. Dedicated and loyal to the club’s cause. Roman Abramovich should do the right thing instead of allowing him to walk out through the door.
