Before the transfer window began, Falcao and Cavani were on Chelsea’s radar and it was expected that Chelsea would pay a very large sum of money to get them. Arsenal were looking to be a place where Newcastle’s striker Demba Ba would move to. However, things took a u-turn just before you could say anything further and Demba Ba is now being linked heavily to Chelsea.
Chelsea have been granted permission to begin talks with Ba after Newcastle activated Ba’s release clause – smartly. Arsenal, who had shown keen interest in Ba, would have to either pray or offer Ba a large sum of money to attract him to their club.
As Ba would be busy in discussions, he will not accompany his squad in their match against Everton.
“Newcastle United can confirm that Chelsea Football Club has made an official offer for Demba Ba which has triggered the release clause in the player’s contract,” declared a statement on the club’s official website.
“The Club has given the player permission to speak to Chelsea FC and therefore he will not be included in the squad for tonight’s game against Everton.”
Ba came to Newcastle from West Ham as a free agent in June 2011. He has scored 13 goals this season.
Chelsea would play Ba either ahead of Fernando Torres or in place of him. Torres has scored half the amount of goals Ba has – 7 goals.
Ba’s release clause is rumored to be 7.5 million pounds.
