Chelsea vs. Arsenal – Match Preview
Weekends without football seem incomplete but Barclays Premier League without action seems like a joke. Chelsea and Arsenal will go head on head in their West London Derby this Saturday!
Venue and Timings
The match will take place at the Emirates Stadium at 12.45 BST ( 16.45 PST and 17.15 IST) on September 29th, 2012.
As John Terry gets a four match ban for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand, this might be his last game before the match. Terry has hardly trained with Chelsea but the chances of him playing are high.
Frank Lampard has recovered from him ankle injury and will be given a chance.
Daniel Sturridge is very unlikely to travel with his team to the Emirates which leaves Roberto de Matteo with a little problem.
Moses, Marin and Lucas Piazon have been of some help during the midweek match and might play their role from the bench.
Thomas Vermaelen had missed his chance to play against Manchester City due to his injury but he might be given a chance here.
Laurent Koscienly is likely to get dropped even though he scored in the last match.
Gervinho is most likely to lead the attack but since Giroud has scored midweek, he is definitely a tough contender for that position.
Wilshere and Frimpong have both returned to training but it would be too early for them to join back.
As Chelsea will play as the away team, they will be under some pressure at the Emirates which will not be nice to them.
Chelsea 0 – 0 Arsenal
Chelsea 3 – 5 Arsenal
Chelsea 1 – 3 Arsenal
Chelsea 2 – 0 Arsenal
Chelsea 3 – 0 Arsenal
What to expect?
Arsenal drew at the Etihad last season despite being the more dominant team. There might be some aggression from the home side to cover up those points.
Chelsea have proved themselves to be a good side during the earlier matches of the season. However as they did not have to fight one of the tougher teams, this will be their real test.
The West London derby at the Emirates is always a low goal scoring affair so you should not expect a high number of goals being scored. However, Drogba used to drive the Arsenal defence mad when he played upfront for Chelsea. With no Drogba this time, Chelsea will not be scring many goals.
My prediction is 1 – 1 draw with both teams picking up a point.
