After the whole month of speculation it was disappointing for The Gunners to lose out on their primary January target who was rated highly by the critics and Arsene Wenger himself. The reason taught to be that why Arsenal lost out on Draxler was that The Schalke chairman was playing hardball over his signing and demanding to pay the full 37m buyout clause which initially delayed the move.
Later BBC reported that owners were ready to pay the buyout clause but Arsene Wenger didn’t value the player this much.
According to Mirror, The Schalke manager Horst Heldt said no to the transfer and would not let me go.’
It’s thought that Arsenal will try again for Draxler at the end of the season, with Wenger hopeful of agreeing a deal for less than the 20-year-old’s £37million release clause.
There were also reports from the Mirror that Julian Draxler has hinted that he could have joined Arsenal on transfer deadline day – only for Schalke to pull out of a deal at the last minute.
