According to A Bola, the Gunners are very keen on the 22-year-old Rodrigo and his club Benfica need to sell, but a combination of terrific form and his €45million buyout clause have likely put paid to any deal. Arsenal look as if they will miss out on the deal until they are ready to pay the full amount of the buyout clause.
Clubs know that Gunners are in desperate need of a signing if they are to win a silverware this season so the clubs are demanding high for their players. Same is the case with the signing of Julian Draxler from Schalke which is stalled due to the demand of the full buyout clause by the Schalke management.
Arsene Wenger is reportedly on the lookout for another centre-forward to help ease the burden on, and supplement, Olivier Giroud, as current alternatives Nicklas Bendtner and Lukas Podolski have so far proved unconvincing.
Rodrigo has netted six times in his last six appearances and the report claims this has convinced Benfica coach Jorge Jesus to hold on to him until the summer so as to maintain the club’s title challenge, as Arsenal are unwilling to meet his €45million buyout clause.
