The Daily Mail has reported that Arsenal are closing in on a double swoop. The news regarding Auxerre forward Ntep has gained serious pace since last couple of days but Daily Mail has indicated that Newcastle and Arsenal both are marching neck to neck to sign Nottingham Forest star Lascelles.
Arsenal’s Chief Scout Steve Rowley watched Lascelles during Forest’s 1-1 draw with Bolton ahead of any formal move, while Forest hope their prize asset will sign a new contract to keep him at the City Ground for the foreseeable future. Arsenal are certainly not the only team to declare an interest and the Nottingham club face a battle to retain Lascelles – Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked with the player over the past 2 years.
Forest may contemplate a sale if the bid is increased and he was loaned back. The Championship club have also completed a permanent deal for Jack Hobbs from Hull.
The Derby-born defender is an impressive athlete; at 6’2″ he possesses a deceptive turn of pace and significant leaping ability used to both cut out aerial passes and make last ditch interceptions. Arsenal’s scouts will have noted the ability of the precocious 20-year-old to cope with such a physically demanding league as the Championship if they decide to bring him to the top division. Lascelles’ composure on the ball would also fit well with the Gunners’ playing style.
