There has been very little activity in the transfer window as yet but the news has it that The Gunners have enquired about the Atletico Madrid winger Saul Niguez behind the scenes but they are to face stiff competition with their derby rivals Chelsea.
Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho are trying to land the 19-year-old midfield magician, who is lighting up La Liga on loan at Rayo Vallecano. It appears he may have caught the eye of Gunners boss with the Mirror claiming that Arsenal have already held talks with the 19-year-old’s representatives about a move to the Emirates and are hoping to agree a deal this month.
Barcelona have also been sniffing but Arsenal – who already have two Spanish stars in Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta in their starting line-up – thought they were in pole position.
Now, however, Mourinho’s late move – and the prospect for Saul of a starting role in the Chelsea side – has made the Blues genuine rivals.
The report also suggests that Niguez is willing to play in the Premier League and will try for a move when Arsenal and Chelsea come calling, with Atletico tipped to sell if the price is right due to their current financial problems.
