Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is hoping to add some flair to his striking force in the January transfer window as Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba have failed to score a lot this season.
Moruniho is still a huge fan of Monaco striker Radamel Falcao according to the Daily Star, but a deal for the £80m striker seems very unlikely.
Costa, who was approached by Liverpool in the summer too, could be a cheap alternative for the Blues as he has been impressive for Atletico so far. He is bound to the Spanish side until 2018 but his performance has attracted interest from a number of clubs.
Arsenal, however, are the strongest party to get hold of the 25-year-old Brazilian striker. The Gunners also sent their chief scout Steve Rowley to Spain to watch the striker in action when Atletico played against Sant Andreu in the Copa Del Rey.
However, newspapers in Italy claim that Chelsea could have a slight edge over Arsenal as they Romelu Lukaku to offer in the exchange. Lukaku is in an amazing form at Everton on a loan deal and the striker could prefer staying at Everton then to leaving for Spain.
Arsenal, on the other hand, have no striker to offer. (Bendtner won’t be the right option.)
