It’s been three transfer windows that Arsenal have been linked with either Alvaro Morata or Karim Benzema. Long speculations of Alvaro Morata joining Arsenal on a 15m transfer fee have struck a killer blow today as Arsenal have turned down the chance of signing him. Arsene Wenger has often been blamed of being too proud while negotiating deals for the players as he recently ruled out a move for Draxler as he declined to pay a mere extra 2m for the player.
Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claimed that Arsenal and Morata had agreed personal terms some time ago and, for those who refuse to trust Balague, he was just repeating what had been widely reported in Spain.
Real Madrid can’t find a place for Morata right now but they’re scared of losing out on a future superstar and so they want a buyback clause in his contract. That would be similar to what Arsenal negotiated over Carlos Vela. An insurance policy.
However, Arsenal are far too proud a club to agree to something like that. Whilst Juventus may be happy acting as some kind of Real Madrid finishing school, Arsenal aren’t and so have passed up on Morata.
