Arsenal looking to capture two of Newcastle United’s best players this January as Yohan Cabaye and Davide Santon are on the verge of joining the league leaders according to reports in France from BFMTV.
Arsenal were strongly linked with Cabaye in the summer and had at least one bid rejected, with Alan Pardew left unimpressed by our supposed £10m opening offer. The Frenchman was keen to make the move to north London and refused to take part in the Geordies clash with West Ham following our bid, and at one point a move looked likely.
However, Arsenal refused to improve upon their offer and eventually opted to sign Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer, while Cabaye ended up staying at St James’ Park where he’s been in outstanding form so far this season.
It seems Arsene Wenger has retained his interest, with French media outlet RMC Sport reporting that we will go back in for the midfielder as part of a £30m double swoop that will also include a move for full-back Santon.
RMC Sport suggest that Santon is likely to be a potential replacement for Bacary Sagna – who continues to stall on signing a contract extension. The Italian international predominately plays at left-back for Newcastle but is also capable of playing on the right side of defence.
