The strike department for the Gunners is probably the weakest link in their squad due to inefficient and inconsistent form Olivier Giroud. The Gunner target man has had a good season but the goals haven’t been coming as frequently as it requires for a top 4 team in the Premier League.
According to the fresh reports in Italy, another name has been revolving around Arsenal’s radar, this time the controversial striker Peter Osvaldo. Southampton, Tottenham and Arsenal are all racing for the striker’s signature but it seems that Southampton have been the frontrunners as apparently they have a bid accepted, reported to be around £15million.
The 27-year-old has been sent off nine times in his career, and cost Roma €17.5 million back in 2011.
Perhaps his most controversial incident came three months into his Roma career, when he punched young teammate Erik Lamela in the face in a row over ‘not passing the ball’, and was subsequently fined and suspended by the club.
He also had an issue with the AS Roma legend Francesco Totti when he had a fued with him of wanting to take the penalty but ended up missing.
With Southampton ahead in the race at present and Arsenal only apparently just joining it – they could have insisted on a cash plus player swap with Gervinho but didn’t – the question is whether he is worth the hassle; but then the same questions have been asked of Suarez too.
