Chelsea boss has claimed that his side deserved to beat Manchester United on Sunday, and he even claimed that his side will beat the Red Devils.
Sir Alex Ferguson had claimed after the match that his side were tired and so they could not perform well.
“United tired? That is a joke,” said the interim manager.
“Sorry, I thought you were joking,” said Benitez.
“No. They played on Tuesday [at home] and we played on Thursday in Romania, I don’t think [tiredness] was an issue [for United].
“They had everything in their favour, they are playing at home, they played on Tuesday, we are coming from Romania and had to travel again so we did a great game and I’m really pleased with my players.”
He went on to claim that he would make substitution and replace the player who were tired.
“I am a professional. I know which of my players would be tired after we went to Romania, The substitutions [I made] changed the game,” said the Spanish.
“I knew that I would have to change players. Hazard is a player of quality who can change a game on his own and Mikel had fresh legs.
“We should have won the game, United are lucky to still be in the cup.
“We did a great game and deserved to win. In the first half we made two mistakes and conceded two goals. But after that we had some good chances in the counter-attack.”
The date for the replay of the quarter-finals is yet to be revealed.
