Surprise news has started flowing ariund the internet that Barcelona want former Arsenal captain and their one of the best players in the past Thomas Vermaelen. The Belgian has been out of action as Mertasacker and Koscielny seems to have been bossing the centre of the defense for the Gunners.
Marca sources claimed that a bid for the Belgian international is on the cards if the Catalan giants fail to sign Chelsea’s attacking centre-half David Luiz to the Nou Camp. Barca are also considering other players after being told that it will take around £30million at least to the chase of Stamford Bridge outfit to sell their Brazilian defender.
And considering that Mourinho has a bit of hatred towards to Barcelona so his first priority would be to not letting the Brazilian leave.
Vermaelen has lost his place in the Gunners side this term and Marca sources said: “The club’s technical department likes him a lot.”
At 28-years-old, and with his regular spot in Arsene Wenger’s side gone, the centre-half would cost significantly less than Luiz and would almost certainly be more open to a move if his manager tells him that he is surplus to requirements.
Barca would start the bidding at somewhere in the region of £10million and could make their move during the January transfer window.
