The Daily Express are claiming that Arsenal are planning to move forward in their pursuit to land Karim Benzema at the Emirates after the striker put forward a new contract demand with revised wages. Though the player said that he wishes to stay at the Bernabeu beyond 2015 but the contract talks with the club have broken down due to the wage demands.
Benzema’s wage demands are of £135,000-a-week, which is equal to watch Gareth Bale earns at the club and second to Cristiano Ronaldo’s wage.
Despite having a good season with Madrid last season, the club are reluctant to hand him a new contract over just one good season.
Also, the player is not on good terms with the fans and he was booed by them at several times last season.
Arsenal have been on high alert over this Benzema contract trouble and Arsene Wenger could finally sign a world-class striker and fill in the empty spot left by Van Persie’s exit two seasons ago.
Wenger has a transfer budget of £100 million for the summer and if it gets him a player of Benzema’s calibre then it would definitely be money well spent as Arsenal have struggled to compete with the aggressive attack of Liverpool and Manchester City.
Benzema, who netted 26 goals in all competitions, enjoys good terms with Ronaldo, Florentino Perez and Carlo Ancelotti, and the player might just be taking advantage of that to earn a 100% wage rise.
