Fanatix have revealed that Arsenal are going to try and get their hands on Manchester United’s right-back Rafael da Silva. Apparently, they want him as a replacement for Bacary Sagna.
Sagna has joined Manchester City on a free transfer on Friday and it came as a blow to Arsenal fans who were extremely heartbroken over former captain Cesc Fabregas’ move to arch-rivals Chelsea. Arsenal now have a vacant spot at right-back.
However, Rafael is a very crucial first team player for Manchester United and it seems highly unlikely that United will let him go. United have already lost two centre-backs this year in form of Nemanja Vidic – who left for Inter Milan – and Rio Ferdinand – who was not offered a new contract by the club.
The only reason the website gives is that United ended 7th and the club will not play in Europe next season. However, Rafael is considered as one of the most loyal players at the club and he shall not be allowed to leave by United.
Very few players have moved between the two clubs due to their recent rivalry in the Premier League era, with Robin van Persie being a notable example when he made a controversial switch to United from Arsenal in 2012.
It is assumed that Arsenal will bid for around £17 million.
