Since the start of this transfer window the link with Carlos Vela was thrown away by all the ITKs and some of the reliable newspapers as well. But apparently the deal has struck a blow as Atletico Madrid have stepped in to sign him from Real Sociedad to replace Diego Costa who is Chelsea bound.
Last month, reports claimed Arsenal were prepared to activate their buy-back clause for former striker Carlos Vela.
For a reported £3.3million, the Gunners could bring in the Mexican hit-man who has shone since leaving the Emirates for Real Sociedad.
Those stories have since gone cold, and now Spanish newspaper El Confidencial has linked Vela with a switch to Atletico Madrid as a replacement for Diego Costa.
Diego Simeone have thought to be Vela’s admirer who now wants him to partner Angel Correa whose move from San Lorenzo was completed last week.
Vela scored 21 goals last season and provided 14 assists. In comparison, Costa scored 36 but set up just seven.
