The world knows that the Gunners lack the power in the strike department. Since the departure of Robin van Persie Gunners have lacked a quality striker upfront who can guarantee them 25-30 goals a season. Giroud has done well when you think for the value he has given for his price tag but still is far away from being a world class striker.
He has had a good season again but question marks still prevail over his ability of being a match winner like van Persie or Suarez are.
The Telegraph indicates that Arsenal are scouting experienced French striker Karim Benzema in a bid to shore up their attacking line and that the 26 year old could be available for £30 million.
Benzema has one year left on his Madrid contract and is yet to be offered a new one, at a time when reports of Los Blancos pursuing Luis Suarez are steadily gaining ground. Benzema is likely to be preferred over Giroud in Brazil and competition between the two centre forwards will be key to Didier Deschamps’ World Cup bid. Benzema has scored 24 goals to Giroud’s 22, but more importantly his 5 goals and 5 assists dwarfs the 3 goals scored by Giroud in Europe.
