Arsenal were planning to land Di Maria from Real Madrid last summer’s transfer window but for some surprising reasons the winger opted to stay with the Los Blancos at Santiago Bernabeu and decided to fight his place in the team even in the presence of Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo. This only proves that Arsenal are in hunting for a flamboyant winger and there is no better choice than Xherdan Shaqiri from Bayern Munich. Media reports in Shaqiri’s homeland claim the Switzerland international will be the subject of a £12.7m bid from Arsene Wenger.
The Infoticker news site claims that the Gunners will attempt to sign the 21-year-old in January despite the fact he has only been at the Allianz Arena for just over a year.
Shaqiri, once hailed as one of Europe’s brightest talents, would need to play on the wing to fit in to Bayern’s system, and he is currently behind Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben in the pecking order. The Swiss is finding difficult to penetrate into the starting 11 of Bayern Munich and may be subject to a move to Arsenal’s firing team at the moment. Shaqiri is under contract until 2016, but that is not likely to be a stumbling block.
