According to many of the reliable sources from the club, Arsenal are on alert as the talks between their long time target and his club have taken a stall. Arsenal have been monitoring the situation of Yoann Gourcuff since three seasons now.
Reports in France are suggesting Lyon are desperate to trim their wage bill, and are struggling to convince Gourcuff – incidentally the clubs highest earner – to sign a new deal. Although Arsenal have already landed some of the quality midfielders in Mesut Ozil and Flamini, the signing of Gourcuff won’t make much sense. But Arsenal on the other hand have monitored and admired Gourcuff for a long time now.
The French star is supposed to earn around £90,000 a week at present, but may now seek a January move to their long term admirers Gunners as he is not content with the club’s new offer. The news has Arsene Wenger himself monitoring the situation, who has been tracking his fellow countryman for some time.
The Gunners were linked with him heavily in the summer, with reports suggesting Gourcuff was willing to take a pay cut to force through a move to the Emirates.
Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has admitted Gourcuff could be on his way “All that I know, if I understood correctly, is that he was ready to lower his salary to go to Arsenal, but that’s not the same thing,”
