This is going to definitely piss some Arsenal fans as it is being understood that Arsene Wenger turned down the Fabregas deal only to sign Tom Cleverley from Manchester United in a swap deal involving their captain Thomas Vermaelen.
According to Telegraph, United have agreed personal terms with Vermaelen who was earlier doubtful over his future at Arsenal. The move could see Vermaelen shipping to Manchester with Cleverley stepping foot on the London soil. The Red Devils are said to have offered £10million for the 28-year-old but Arsenal have requested they throw in one of their current squad members to sweeten the deal.
But the question still rises, why Arsene Wenger would want Cleverley at his helm when he has more than enough depth in the Central Midfield department at his helm.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has reportedly asked for either Cleverley or Smalling to be included, with England international Smalling likely to be the preferred target. Wenger was interested in Smalling before he moved to Old Trafford.
