According to reports from Caught Offside, Arsenal have entered in advanced talks with FC Barcelona over the signing of Cesc Fabregas, who was adored at Arsenal but left for his boyhood club by forcing out a move. Fabregas’ tenure at Barcelona isn’t much applauded by the Barca fans and he is often accused of failing in big games despite of having a good number of assists and goals. He was also booed by the supporters of his boyhood club and this has made the Spaniard unhappy.
Wenger had been looking to make a fresh offer for January target Julian Draxler but is now ready to switch his attention to Fabregas, who spent eight years at Arsenal prior to his £35m move back to Barcelona in August 2011.
Though Fabregas has started 26 La Liga fixtures this season he has also at times been dropped for crucial fixtures and repeatedly hauled off. Indeed of the midfielder’s 42 total starts this term the World Cup winner has been subbed on no less than 27 occasions.
The report suggests that Arsenal are prepared to pay around £40m to bring Cesc back to the Emirates, while a swap deal involving Thomas Vermaelen has also been mooted.
Vermaelen has been a long-term target for Barca and with the Belgian expected to leave this summer after losing his first team place, he could be tempted by the opportunity to be Carles Puyol’s replacement at the Nou Camp.
