Arsenal fan speaks out: Who to blame?

Azeem March 23, 2013 3

I have been a fan of Arsenal since 2002, when I was 10 years old. I have watched the great Invincibles take the stage; I have seen Bergkamp score against Newcastle by turning 360 degrees; I have seen Arsenal lift the trophy at White Heart Lane; I have seen Theirry Henry score a solo goal against Real Madrid; I have seen Arsenal leading in the Champions League final with 10 men against Barcelona ; I have seen Fabregas being brought up by Wenger; and I have seen Arsenal lose 8-2 at Old Trafford. I have pretty much witnessed a lot.
I am now 21-years-old and it has been 8 long years since Arsenal won a trophy – and I am waiting for a trophy like all you Gunners out there! It’s not that we have not got the chance to win anything, but its just that the new youth strategy did not suit the team well. The team lacks loyalty: great players, who were brought up by Wenger to stardom, are now earning millions by playing for other teams. I am not pointing fingers at anyone, but since Roman Abramovic took over Chelsea, EPL was introduced with the philosophy of cash over football.
What did Arsenal have till 2005 that led them to trophies? Loyalty! The mighty team called Arsenal had a team full of motivation and a leader like Veira. Arsenal was one of the most feared teams in Europe with every player in the team aware of his role.
Now? The team lacks mental strength, as well as the physical capability to turn the matches in their favor. I do not know who is their to blame, but what happens is that key players leave the club, the team starts to fall apart, a new addition is made, he takes his time to settle in and the next thing you know is that another player is on his way out.
Players like Alexander Hleb, Alex Song and Mathieu Flamini, left Arsenal and went to teams like Barcelona and AC Milan. Such players, I believe, were Arsenal’s unsung heroes. They played a key role in Arsenal’s midfield and I hope, these players regret their decisions.
Arsenal bought Fabregas on a free transfer from Barcelona and sold him to the same club and earned such a huge profit that you wont believe. My point is that, don’t blame the manger for what you don’t have, instead blame the owner. I would just like to see Arsenal win a title next season and get rewarded for the beautiful football they play.
